Overview

Le Xiyou ji est probablement le roman le plus extravagant qui ait jamais été écrit. Son thème est celui d'un moine qui, au VIIe siècle, partit pour l'Inde (vers le paradis de l'Ouest) chercher les livres qui lui permettraient de retrouver les soutras véritables du Bouddha. Il fit une relation de ce voyage. Les conteurs s'emparèrent du schéma narratif. Le récit - historique et géographique - d'un moine servit de prétexte à l'imaginaire des raconteurs qui ameutèrent et rameutèrent toutes les figures de l'imaginaire de l'âme chinoise, la taoïste et la bouddhiste.
Cette structure-cadre permit d'englober fantômes, revenants et monstres, l'intrigue autorisant de rattacher chacun des contes l'un à l'autre. Au XVIe siècle, le très probable compilateur - Wu Cheng'en - rassembla cette masse de récits pour en faire une seule ouvre. S'il a bien repris la trame romanesque traditionnelle, il l'ourdit sans cesse en la déraisonnant, par nécessité ou par jeu, pour créer une fantasmagorie bouddhique qui laisse toutes les interprétations la pénétrer, mais leur foisonnement même reconduit sans cesse le sens à l'insensé.
Ce roman est, au fond, la culture obstinée et assidue du Vide, comme l'indique le nom du personnage principal, un singe, « Conscience de la vacuité du monde ».

Parémonos un momento y pensemos cuántas imágenes hemos consumido a lo largo del día. Entre la publicidad que se expande por la ciudad, las series con las que nos divertimos o las fotografías del periódico con el que pretendemos entender lo que pasa a nuestro alrededor, las imágenes son probablemente el tipo de información más potente que llega hasta nosotros. En contra de lo que muchos pensamos, estas imágenes tienen un papel central en nuestras vidas, porque no solo relatan o dicen, sino que las imágenes hacen: nos hacen sentirnos mal, nos hacen ir al gimnasio, nos hacen enfadarnos con nuestra pareja porque no cumple las expectativas visuales que deseamos, nos hacen odiar, gritar y, fundamentalmente, nos hacen comprar. Debido al enorme poder que las producciones visuales tienen en nuestras vidas, este libro destaca la idea de que todas las imágenes tienen consecuencias, consecuencias tan importantes como ganar una guerra —la guerra fría se ganó con la imagen del hombre norteamericano pisando la luna—, justificar otra —pensemos en este momento en las espectaculares imágenes de la caída de las Torres Gemelas— o contribuir el aumento de las muertes por violencia de género. Y todas y todos sabemos por qué ocurre esto; ocurre porque nadie nos ha enseñado a mirar las imágenes y porque la potencia profundamente política de todas ellas se desarticularía si aprender a mirar se considerara una competencia básica para el mundo que tenemos y para el que nos espera. Por esta razón, este libro ofrece unas ideas básicas desde donde desarticular el poder que las imágenes tienen en nuestro día a día. Esto no son las Torres Gemelas, publicado por primera vez en 2006 y ahora reeditado revisado por la autora, nunca ha sido tan necesario como hoy, porque nunca antes han existido tantas imágenes en nuestras vidas y nunca antes su poder transformador ha sido tan fuerte.
